MILLBURN, NJ - All of Millburn Township remains without power, and officials are saying the power may not be restored for 7 to 10 days, Mayor Sandra Haimoff said late this morning.

The power company is working on getting the infrastructure--including transmitters--up and running, so if residents do not see trucks on the road they should not be discouraged, she said.

To date, the township has no reported injuries or deaths.

"It's bad, but it could have been worse," the mayor said.

Town Hall has a generator and is open for business.

The Bauer Community Center in Taylor Park and the Gero Park headquarters building have power and are open as charging stations for electronic devices.

Garbage and recycling services resume tomorrow, so residents can clean out their refrigerators and freezers.

The full complement of the public works, police and fire departments are on the job.

Residents are asked not to put branches in the street, as crews are trying to clear the roadways.

Driving is very difficult, according to Haimoff, and residents are asked to stay off the roads.

The Mayor was on her way to deliver meals to seniors who have signed up for Meals on Wheels and to check up on seniors who may need assistance. The effort is being coordinated by township resident and volunteer Annette Romano.

Millburn Schools will remain closed on Thursday, November 1 and Friday, November 2.

All school events have been cancelled, including tonight’s Big Read discussion and Monday’s College Fair.

At 4:25 p.m., Mayor Haimoff told TheAlternativePress.com,  "Transmitters and substations that feed Millburn being worked on. We will have sandwich boards at Hartshorn and South Mountain schools and Bauer Center and Gero with updated info as we get it.  It is a bad situation but it could have been worse."
