NEWTON, NJ - For those who are caring for family members and friends, there can be challenges and joys, which typically only other caregivers, as well as professionals in the field of caregiving, can truly relate to.
The United Way Caregivers Coalition is an invaluable resource for local caregivers seeking advice, support, education and resources.
The United Way of Northern New Jersey Caregivers Coalition, which offers this type of outreach and networking opportunities for caregivers in the county, meets once monthly. The next upcoming meeting is on Thursday, Oct. 3, from noon until 1:30 p.m.
Monthly meetings take place the first Thursday of each month at Tri-Co Federal Credit Union at 47 US Highway 206 in Augusta. Anyone who has an interest in an aspect of caregiving is welcome and is invited to bring lunch to this midday meeting.
The county coalition celebrated its inception in 2012, and has more than 200 participants on its roster, ranging from those looking after the needs of their loved ones, to medical and social service professionals. At the start of each meeting, every caregiver has the opportunity to share their experiences with caregiving.
Prior to the Oct. 3 meeting, is the next upcoming educational workshop, which is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 24 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the Sussex County YMCA at 15 Wits End Dr., in Hardyston. At this free Munch & Learn, the topic of Physicians Orders for Life-Sustaining Treatment (POLST) will be explored. Light refreshments will also be served, courtesy of Newton Medical Center.
