CRANFORD, NJ — Union County College has decided to build its new athletic field at Oak Ridge Park in Clark, instead of its Cranford campus, according to Stephen Nacco, vice president, administrative services and executive assistant to the president of UCC.

The decision came after the Trustees’ Buildings and Grounds Committee reviewed a plan to build the field at Oak Ridge Park in Clark or on the Cranford campus.

“The committee advised the full board that the committee’s consensus was for President McMenamin to accept the Union County College Board of Chosen Freeholders’ offer to use some land in Oak Ridge Park for the acutely needed soccer/lacrosse field and track. The full board concurred, and so President McMenamin will work with the County to build the field in Clark,” said Nacco.

Residents of Westfield and Cranford have urged Westfield’s town council to oppose building the field at the UCC’s Cranford campus, citing concerns about flooding, parking, traffic and safety problems in their neighborhood, as well as an increase noise pollution and light pollution.
