Two Weekend Shootings in Paterson

PATERSON, NJ - Three people were wounded in separate shootings in the 5th and 1st wards over the weekend, according to police.
In the first incident, a fight between two women prompted a man to start firing shots inside Roberto Clemente Park, near the Market Street entrance, at 5:40 pm on Friday, police said.
An 18-year-old resident of N. 1st Street and a 21-year-old from West Milford suffered graze wounds to the chest, according to Sgt. Patrick Murray of the Cease-Fire unit. They were both treated and released from St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center.
The two females apparently had a previous fight and started another brawl when they encountered each other on Friday, according to police. The shooter was "involved" with one of the females, police said. It's not clear whether the victims were with the other woman or not.
In the second incident, a 19-year-old woman from E. 25th Street was wounded while she was a passenger in a vehicle near the corner of N. 3rd and Temple streets at about 3:10 am on Sunday when a group of young men started firing a gun, police said. Her left arm was grazed and she was treated and released at the hospital.
"Detectives are attempting to determine whether or not one of the vehicle occupants was the target of the shooter or if the vehicle was struck with a stray projectile,'' said Murray.
Police are continuing their investigations into both shootings. They are asking that anyone with information contact Detective Dave Tanis or Detective Ed Taylor of the Cease-Fire Unit at 973-321-1342.
