Two Shoplifters Arrested In South Orange

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ – Police arrested two people on shoplifting charges in separate incidents.
Anthony McBride, 39, of Newark, was taken into custody when police responded to reports of a theft at Rite Aid on May 22. McBride was spotted fleeing on a bicycle with the stolen items a few blocks from the scene and arrested without incident.
Yaminah Williams, 32, of Newark, was arrested when she attempted to leave Pathmark with merchandise that was not paid for at approximately 4:40 p.m. on May 21. She was apprehended at the scene and arrested without incident.
In other police news:
Someone broke into a Scotland Road residence that was under renovation and attempted to steal appliances and cabinets from the kitchen sometime between May 17 and May 19. Police believe that the suspect might have gained entry via an unlocked porch window.
A 16-year-old South Orange resident was arrested on May 20 when police determined that he was responsible for the prior theft of a backpack and cell phone from the Community Center basketball courts. He was apprehended at his home and taken into custody without incident.
The owner of a Sloan Street building reported that she witnessed someone enter her second-floor office and steal her wallet and change purse shortly after 4 p.m. on May 19. The suspect, described as a 30-year-old goateed black male about 5 feet 9 inches tall, fled as soon as he was spotted.
- An Orange resident stated that someone stole his silver Dahon Express bicycle from the bike rack on Sloan Street sometime between 4 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. on May 18.
