PATERSON, NJ - Two men are in stable condition after they were shot while sitting as passengers in a car late Tuesday night near the intersection of 17th Avenue and East 18th Street.
Jesus Gargot of North 6th Street in Paterson has been arrested and is in custody in connection with the incident. Gargot had a gun and 43 glassines of what is believed to be heroin at the time of his arrest.
The incident occurred shortly before 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to Lt. Patrick Murray. The two victims, a 22-year-old male from Paterson and a 49-year-old male from New York City, were seated inside a vehicle when they both were struck by gunshots. The driver of the vehicle took them to St. Joseph's Medical Center for immediate treatment.
"While at the scene, patrol officers were provided with a physical description of a male who was seen in the area of the shooting," Murray said. "A search of the area was conducted by Patrol Officers Tim Tabor, Christopher Ravallese and Latia Taylor, at which time they observed a male, later identified as Jesus Gargot, who matched the description. Gargot fled on foot from the officers, and was apprehended in a rear yard on Madison Avenue."
Ceasefire detectives later recovered a second handgun believed to be related to the shooting incident, the motive for which remains unclear.
The victim from Paterson was shot in the back. The victim from New York has a gunshot wound to his right leg.
