Two Men Shot in 5th Ward Friday night

PATERSON, NJ - Two young men hanging out on Park Avenue were wounded late Friday night when a single gunman began firing shots at them, police said. The gunman fled on foot.
The incident happened at 11:53 pm near E. 23rd Street, according to Sgt. Patrick Murray, head of the Cease-Fire Unit.
Both victims - a 21-year-old who lives on E. 23rd Street and a 20 year-old who resides on N. 6th Street - were wounded in the left and are in stable at St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center.
Authorities learned of the incident when a Paterson police officer on routine patrol heard the shots. At the scene, the officer found the two victims in the road in front of 315 Park Avenue.
Murray said ballistics evidence was recovered from the scene. It was not clear what the motive for the shooting was.
