Two Cars Burglarized in South Orange

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ – Burglars stole cash and other items from two unlocked vehicles in South Orange.

A Holland Road resident told police that someone entered her 2002 Honda and removed a new pair of boots and a GPS unit sometime between 10 p.m. on March 15 and 4 p.m. on March 16. The vehicle was not locked.

A Cameron Road resident reported that someone entered his unlocked 2013 Honda and stole about $15 in change sometime between 5 p.m. on March 19 and 1 p.m. on March 20.

Police are still investigating those thefts, but they did arrest two Newark youths on charges of stealing a pair of bicycles.

A Warren Court resident told police that she saw two juveniles enter a neighbor’s backyard on foot while the residents were not home shortly before noon on March 15. Officers saw the suspects fleeing on bicycles and apprehended them a short distance away.

In other police news:

  • Darren Artis, 47, of East Orange, was arrested when police responded to reports of shoplifting at a Valley Street liquor store at about 6:20 p.m. on March 17. Officers found Artis fleeing the scene three blocks away and arrested him without incident.
     
  • A Mountain House Road resident told police that someone smashed the rearview mirror of their 2002 Nissan with a rock while it was parked in their driveway sometime between 1 p.m. on March 14 and 9 a.m. on March 16.
     
  • A resident reported that someone punctured the tires of their 2002 BMW and poured an unknown substance in the gas tank sometime between 8:30 p.m. on March 11 and 10 p.m. on March 12. The vehicle, which was rendered unusable, was parked in a municipal lot adjacent to the public library.
     
  • Dionisio Querques, 24, of West Orange, was arrested when detectives determined that he was responsible for the theft of construction equipment from the campus of Seton Hall University in November 2013. Querques was apprehended at his home at about 9:30 a.m. on March 19.
