GREEN BROOK, NJ -- A two-car accident that onlookers said was caused by a van running a red light sent three people to the hospital, totalled two cars and completely knocked a traffic light to the ground just before noon Thursday.

Witnesses said that a van ran the stop light at the intersection of Greenbrook Road and Washington Avenue and stuck another white van on the driver's side. One of the vehicles then struck the traffic light, knocking it down at the base, and wound up in the parking lot of a popular deli and salon. The other vehicle was stopped in the middle of the intersection.

EMTs on the site said that three people, all adults, were treated on site for injuries and taken to area hospitals for additional treatment. A young boy, three or four years old, who was in the second vehicle was unharmed and in good spirits. He was cared for by a neighbor who happened on the scene.

Firefighters spread a drying agent at the base of both vehicles to prevent leaking fluids from catching fire, and neither vehicle caught fire.

PSE&G workers and contractors were on-site within an hour, and the traffic light was fully functional within three hours.
