Traffic Disruptions Expected as Fanwood Water Pipe Upgrades Begin

FANWOOD, NJ - Work to replace and upgrade Fanwood’s aging water lines will begin on March 23 and end around Sept. 30, 2014.

The first stage of the project calls for full replacement of the water mains along Martine Avenue between South Avenue and Trenton Avenue.  The second stage includes cleaning and lining existing lines. Impacted streets will include: Gere Place, Kempshall Terrace, Chetwood Terrace, Cray Terrace, Vinton Circle, Helen Street, Belvidere Avenue, Burns Way, Herbert Avenue, Marian Avenue, Second Street, Poplar Place, Klaniecki Place, MacLennan Place, Beech Avenue, LaGrande Avenue, Laurel Place, First Street, Clement Place, and Winfield Place.

The $5 million project conducted by New Jersey American Water will replace aging water mains originally installed between 1918 and 1957. The investment is expected to bring better water pressure to homes in Fanwood.

“This is a huge investement in our infrastructure and will address the longstanding water pressure issue in the borough,” said Fanwood Mayor Colleen Mahr. “The project will cause disruption in traffic, and we have asked it to be kept to a minimum. The Borough Council supports this endeavor and asks for patience from residents as the work is done.”

A representative from New Jersey American Water will attend and answer questions at the Borough Council meeting tonight at 7 p.m. at Fanwood Borough Hall. The meeting can also be seen live on Comcast Channel 35 and viewed on video at a later date.
