LIVINGSTON, NJ - On Nov. 1, Livingston launched a “Geographical Information System” (GIS) – or interactive map – link on the Township website at www.livingstonnj.org.  “We’ve been building this system over the past two years,” stated Township Engineer Rich Calbi, “and we’re pleased to be able to release this user-friendly version to the public.  This is a great way to provide a lot of the information our residents are looking for in one convenient place.”

Through the new GIS website link, users will be able to

  • view maps of Livingston and the surrounding areas, including street, topographic (elevation contours) and imagery maps;

  • locate public playgrounds, schools, streams, easements, topography and building outlines;

  • search the map by property address, or block and lot;

  • pan through the map, zoom in or out, print or save a map; and

  • see specific information for each property:  garbage pickup day, recycling day, leaf collection zone and polling location.

“In the future, we hope to add additional information, including building zones, construction projects, traffic lights and ball fields,” said Calbi.  “In fact, we encourage users to call us at 973-535-7950 or e-mail us at engineering@livingstonnj.org with their questions or suggestions.”

Developed by Township GIS Consultant Maser Consultant, the system was created using the ArcGIS Viewer for Flex. This a software product created by ESRI, the leader in GIS software internationally.  As the ESRI website states, "ArcGIS Viewer for Flex provides a smart, intuitive framework for looking at and interacting with maps."

The system initially required a minor set-up fee of $2,400 and there is no recurring fee to run the software.   The mapping information is for informational purposes only, and the mapped data does not constitute a legal survey.  For definitive description of real property, consult the deeds recorded in the County Clerk’s Office.

Visit the Township web site at www.livingstonnj.org and check out the new GIS link.  If you have questions or suggestions, please call 973-535-7950 or e-mail engineering@livingstonnj.org.
