BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - Official meetings in the township will be available to residents on public access television beginning in 2014.
"Cameras will be installed in the City Hall Meeting Room to record public meetings such as Township Council, Planning Board and other official meetings so they can be shown to the residents on the township's public access channel," said Nick Shiavo, who presented at this week's Township Council meeting on behalf of the Communications Committee for final approval.
The benefit to taping Township Council meetings is to demonstrate professionalism and government transparency by providing another vehicle of bringing government to the residents of Berkeley Heights.
The Communications Committee followed the Township's purchasing policies and procedures guidelines and State pay-to-play laws.
Bids were solicited for the purchase of equipment and installation. The equipment will be purchased from B&H Photo & Video for $6,340; Installation by Stiefel LLC for $4,200 and additional material required for $1,460. The final selection was based upon minimum dollar expenditure and ability to produce a quality event. The expenditure is within the appropriated amount in the 2013 Township Budget.
The cameras will be installed in January 2014 with taping to commence at the February 2014 Township Council meeting to be aired on public access TV Comcast 34 and Fios 47.
Upon feedback from the public, the committee will recommend taping Planning Board meetings and other official meetings.
