TONY Award-Winning Actor Norbert Leo Butz Returns to the South Orange Performing Arts Center (SOPAC)

@ SOPAC, Saturday, OCT 13th

Monday, October 8, 2012 • 10:29am

Two-time TONY Award Winner Norbert Leo Butz brings his inimitable talents from Manhattan’s Great White Way to his local NJ neighborhood.  Currently a resident of Maplewood, Norbert returns to SOPAC for a one-night engagement the night of Saturday, October 13th (Norbert made his SOPAC debut in 2010).

In this special show, Norbert will perform the music that inspired him to become a performer: bluegrass, blues, country, and of course Broadway.  More of a salute to the American Songbook than to cabaret, Norbert’s poetry-meets-blues concert recently graced the stage at Manhattan’s 54 Below club.   According to the New York Times, Norbert “is a much larger, more complex musical personality than could ever be contained by a single role. He has the soul of a poet and a bluesman on the same wavelength as Van Morrison and Tom Waits, two of the composers whose songs he performed.”

A two-time Tony winner for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical for starring roles in the musicals “Catch Me If You Can” and “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels,” Norbert has also earned stellar reviews in such plays as “Speed-the-Plow” and the recent revival of “How I Learned To Drive” at Second Stage.

This fall on Broadway, Norbert will play the ne’er-do-well brother of Katie Holmes’s character in Theresa Rebeck’s new comedy “Dead Accounts” which begins previews at the Music Box Theater in November.
