SOUTH ORANGE, NJ – The Seton Hall University theater program's production of Harper Lee’s "To Kill a Mockingbird" opens tonight at the university's Theatre-in-the-Round.

The show is open to the public free of charge. Performances are Feb. 27, 28 and March 1 at 8 p.m. and March 2 at 2 p.m.

“I love the book, I love the story, I loved the movie,” said theater professor Deirdre Yates, who directs the play. “I think the message is just so relevant and beautiful, and I think it’s just a great choice for our students.”

The play focuses on the story of Atticus Finch, an Alabama lawyer defending a young black man accused of raping a white woman, and three children as they explore themes of racial tolerance and the loss of innocence.

The play stars Ben Yates as Atticus Finch, Jalen Hemphill as Tom Robinson and Christine Byrne as Mayella Ewell.

“It’s a great play,” Yates said.  “So we’d desperately love people from outside of the university community to join us.”

Complete information about the production can be found on Seton Hall’s website.
