Three Sussex County Community College students, Kimberly Amato Jessica Braun and James Phillips accompanied SCCC Trustees Judge Lorraine Parker and Glen Vetrano and College President, Dr. Paul Mazur at the Community College Ambassador Day at the Statehouse in Trenton.

Hosted by the New Jersey Council of Community Colleges (NJCCC) the Trustee Ambassador program was designed to encourage more trustee involvement in state-level community college issues. Since its inception the program has become a key part of the state level activities designed to create key liaisons regarding legislative and educational initiatives.

The Trustees and Student Ambassadors met with Assemblywoman Alison Littell McHose, Assemblyman Parker Space and State Senator Steve Oroho in support of community college key initiatives. These included, among others, state funding and the elimination of the Student Health Insurance mandate for community college students. Legislation was passed later in the day that eliminated the mandate, which would have imposed a serious financial hardship on community college students. The day included briefings on other key issues, meetings with legislators, and remarks by several senators in the New Jersey Senate Chamber.

Dr. Mazur commented, “We are extremely proud of our NJ Stars Ambassadors and the efforts of our Trustees to advance the cause of Sussex County Community College and the vital and vibrant role community colleges fill in bringing quality and affordable education to the residents of New Jersey.”
