Third Annual Support Our Troops Casino Night Rescheduled for November 24

WESTFIELD, NJ—Update: In the Wake of Superstorm Sandy, Support Our Troops Casino Night has been rescheduled for November 24 at 7 p.m. Those who purchased tickets for the original night, November 3, will have the option of getting a refund if they cannot attend.
The Support Our Troops Casino Night at the Westfield Armory will benefit the Family Readiness Groups of the entire 102nd Cavalry Squadron, which supports over 500 soldiers and their families.
The Family Readiness Group (FRG) is an officially command-sponsored organization of family members, volunteers and soldiers belonging to a unit that together provide an avenue of mutual support and assistance and a network of communications among the family members, the chain of command and community resources.
FRGs are designed to help create a climate of mutual support within the unit and community. Basic FRG goals include supporting the military mission through provision of support, outreach and information to family members.
Over the past three years, the Westfield FRG has planned the Back from Iraq Celebration, organized the distribution of Christmas trees, organized the holiday party with food and toys for the children, organized assistance during the holidays, provided assistance for soldiers whose home had burnt down, helped find employment, assisted in finding affordable daycare, provided bagels and coffee during drill weekends, organized meals at the Armory during drill events and mailed packages to deployed soldiers.
“Casino night is a wonderful opportunity for the community, military members and families to come together and get to know one another better,” said Danille Bracco, who volunteers along with Amy Lovato as the Family Readiness Group Leader of HHT 1-102nd Cavalry Squadron, Army National Guard based out of the Westfield Armory. “Our event is a mix of good food, drink and fun. You may play the tables and compete for amazing prizes, partake of top-shelf food and drink and relax, laugh and get to know the heart of our organization.”
Prizes to be won that evening include two round-trip tickets from Air Canada, two-night stays at fine New York City hotels, golf outings, theater tickets, Yankees tickets, membership at the Westfield Area YMCA and a large assortment of prize baskets donated by local businesses.
It is no coincidence that Casino Night will be held so close to Veterans Day. “We would like this event to bring people together to thank all veterans—those serving or who have served, active or retired, and to raise our glasses to those who made the ultimate sacrifice,” said Bracco. “May they never be forgotten.”
Tickets are $50 general public/$40 veterans and seniors. Food, beer, wine and $60-worth of gambling chips are included. Dress will be casual.
