Think Spring, Think Green at Reeves-Reed Arboretum! Plan a visit to enjoy the beautiful display of daffodils or take advantage of one of the special spring workshops. Don’t forget to stop at the Tea Rose Café, catered by What A Dish in Summit, for lunch or a light snack. Picnic baskets are also available. Café hours are Thursday – Saturday from 11:00 am – 3:00 pm.
On Thursday, April 28 come to a succulent living wreath workshop. Learn about xeriscaping and drought-tolerant plants while creating a living wreath using succulent plants that love hot, dry conditions. The workshop is being offered at two different times, either 10am to 12pm or 7pm to 9pm. The cost of the workshop is $40 for members or $50 for nonmembers and requires pre-registration.
On Saturday April 30, enjoy some time digging in the dirt. Lead horticulturist Julieanne Frascinella will be on the grounds between 9:00 am and 2:00 pm preparing the garden beds for spring. Lend a helping hand while learning proper techniques of pruning, weed identification and more.
Saturday, May 7 between 11 am and 1 pm, come to the Arboretum’s Greenhouse to make a memorable gift for that special someone on your Mother’s Day list. Fill a small container with colorful spring flowers that she can enjoy; then head over to the Discovery Center to make her a card!This workshop is open to all, but children ages 4 – 10 must be accompanied by an adult. Thecost is $10 for members or $15 for nonmembers. Pre-registration is requested.
For rose lovers, make sure to mark Thursday, June 16 on your calendars. Join Sarah Owens, curator of the historic Cranford Rose Collection at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, for a presentation on organic rose care. Learn methods for maintaining a healthy, beautifully blooming rose garden without the use of chemical or toxic products. Find out about companion plants for your rose garden that encourage beneficial insects. The program will begin at 10:00, followed by the opening of a plant sale featuring perennials from local grower, Bill Kolvek Perennials in Woodcliff Lake, NJ. The plant sale will run through Saturday, June 18. There is no charge to members for the lecture. Non members must pay a $15 fee.
