Thieves Break into Southgate Road Apartment Complex

On 03-12-2014 at approximately 5:02 p.m., an individual broke into a Southgate Rd. apartment complex laundry rooms and forced open the cash machine utilizing a sledgehammer. The male left with cash from the machine fleeing in a blue Buick LeSabre. A witness contacted the police department to report that he captured a picture of the suspect and the vehicle. At approximately 9:30 pm, Patrolman Joseph DiParisi stopped a vehicle matching the description on Spring Floral Drive. Through the investigation, it was determined that the vehicle was the one in question. Patrolman DiParisi arrested Wayne Stoecker, age 36, of Edison for burglary, possession of burglary tools, possession of CDS with attempt to distribute, and criminal mischief. The driver of the vehicle when Patrolman DiParisi stopped it was Ashley Edwards, age 31, of Somerville who was identified as a passenger during the time of the burglary. Ms. Edwards was charged with attempted burglary and possession of burglary tools. Further investigation produced charges against Danica Harpster, age 22, of Washington Twp. attempted burglary and possession of burglary tools. Mr. Stoecker was transported to the Union County Jail pending his court date. Ms. Edwards and Ms. Harpster were both released pending their court dates.
02-06-2014: A resident of Primrose Drive reported fraud to his American Express and Discover cards. The resident indicated that someone changed the address on both cards in attempts to get new cards sent to the fraudulent address. The fraud is currently under investigation by the New Providence Detective Bureau.
02-17-2014: A resident of the 700 block of Mountain Avenue, near Diamond Hill Road, reported their house was burglarized sometime between 10:15 am on February 15 and 5:00 pm on February 17. The burglar forced their way in the front door and stole approximately $4,000.00 worth of jewelry. The residents were away for the weekend and the driveway wasn’t plowed. The detective bureau is requesting that anyone who may have seen something or someone suspicious during that time frame in the area, is asked to contact the police department.
02-17-2014: Patrolman Andrew Diamond arrested Edna Solange-Fernando Marcelo, age 27, of Elizabeth with hindering apprehension by providing false information to a law enforcement officer after her vehicle was stopped for having tinted windows. Ms. Marcelo was charged with the equipment violation along with obstruction of the administration of the law and operating a motor vehicle while her license was suspended. Ms. Marcelo was released after bail was satisfied and pending a court date.
02-18-2014: At 3:20 pm, police units responded to the 300 block of Union Avenue, near Sulfrain Road, on a report of a burglar alarm. Patrols and detectives checked the residence and found similar foot prints that matched those of the burglary on the 700 block of Mountain Avenue. No entry appears to have been gained and nothing taken. Detectives are currently investigating the alarm call as if it were an attempted burglary.
02-25-2014: Detective Donald Sretenovic arrested Christie Alvino, age 30, of Paterson for shoplifting. The arrest stemmed from an investigation into over $1,800.00 worth of merchandise that was stolen from a Borough business. Ms. Alvino was identified through video surveillance.
02-26-2014: Patrolman Andrew Diamond arrested Alexis Mongiello, age 18, on possession of CDS and being under the influence of CDS after she was stopped for having an active outstanding warrant out of the Borough. She was charged and turned over to the Union County Jail pending a court date.
02-27-2014: A resident of Second Street reported a fraud of over $450.00 that occurred to her Bank of America account on February 26. The victim reported that someone utilized her account to purchase items at two stores in Old Bridge. It is unknown at this time how the suspects stole the victim’s information and the fraud is currently under investigation.
03-04-2014: A resident of Sherwood Drive reported fraudulent activity to her credit card after she received a package in the mail from H&M that she did not purchase. The resident then checked her account statement and found several other attempted fraudulent transactions. The fraud is currently under investigation by the detective bureau.
03-10-2014: Detective Sergeant Daniel Henn arrested Cassi Ault, age 22, of Effort, PA for shoplifting after her vehicle was stopped for a motor vehicle violation. During the motor vehicle stop, Patrolman Andrew Diamond arrested Jacqueline Frisch, age 25, also of Effort, PA with possession of CDS and possession of hypodermic needles. During the stop, proceeds from the shoplifting and the CDS were observed in plain view in the vehicle. It was confirmed that the items were stolen from a Borough business. Both were released pending court dates.
03-10-2014: A resident of Seven Oaks Drive reported her PayPal account was compromised and over $1,700.00 worth of fraudulent transactions were charged to her TD Bank account. The fraud is currently under investigation.
03-10-2014: A resident of Union Avenue reported $2,000.00 worth of fraud to her Chase account. Charges were made at numerous Guitar Centers for gift cards. On the same day a resident of Mountain Avenue reported similar charges to her TD Bank account totaling $1,200.00. These charges were also at numerous Guitar Centers. Neither victim knows of how the information was stolen. Both cases are currently under investigation by the Detective Bureau.
03-11-2014: Corporal Steven Opalewski arrested William S. Milner, age 31, of New Providence with possession of CDS and failure to turn over CDS to a law enforcement officer after a random license plate inquiry revealed that Mr. Milner’s license was suspended and that he had active outstanding warrants for his arrest. Mr. Milner was released to the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office on the outstanding warrant. He was given a mandatory court date at the New Providence Municipal Court.
03-20-2014: Patrolman Andrew Diamond arrested Joseph R. Magliacano, age 30, of Bloomfield with driving under the influence, possession of CDS, possession of PLD or stramonium prep, and possession of drug paraphernalia after he was stopped for a motor vehicle violation. He was also charged with numerous other motor vehicle violations witnessed by the Officer. He was released to a responsible party pending a court date.
