Theft and Small Basemant Fire in The February Police Blotter

Feb 16: Officer Robert Coyle responded to the CVS Store for the report of shoplifting. An employee of CVS advised that he observed a woman place a lipstick container into her pocket and walk out of the store. The employee stopped her and advised her that he knew that she had a lipstick container in her pocket and to hand it to him. The accused gave the lipstick back and the police were called. After speaking with the shift supervisor and police, she was asked to leave the store. As she walked out the front door, an anti-theft sensor sounded indicating that an item was being transported out the store without paying for it. Upon inspection of her purse, a box of ‘Mucinex DM’ was found.
Feb 19: Officer Jeff Goral responded to a residence on Prince Henry Dr for the report of criminal mischief to the victim’s mailbox. The victim reported that her mailbox was “egged”.
Feb 19: Officer Kurt Edelman responded to Merrimac Road for a report of criminal mischief to a mailbox. The victim reported that her mailbox was “egged.”
Feb 20: Sgt. Garry Moore stopped Timothy Bowie for motor vehicle violations. Timothy J. Bowie, 25, Long Pond, PA was subsequently arrested for an outstanding ACS warrant out of Wharton NJ. Bowie was issued several motor vehicle violations. Wharton Police arrived on scene and took custody of Mr. Bowie.
Feb 22: Officer Jeff Goral took a report of Fraud. The victim reported fraudulent charges on his Discover Credit Card. The fraudulent charges totaled $12,312.60. Discover advised the victim would not be responsible for the unauthorized charges.
Feb 22: Officer Jeff Goral responded to Merrimac Rd on the report of a male and female soliciting door to door. The solicitors explained that they work for “College Works” and they were attempting to compile a list of residents who wanted a free estimate for painting. They did not possess a permit to solicit thru the town and were asked to cease soliciting.
Feb 22: Officer James Pritchard Jr. responded to Kirkbride Drive on the report of a person in the back of a pickup truck throwing a snowball at another vehicle. Officer Pritchard met with the accused and victim. The victim stated that there was no damage to his vehicle and just wanted the incident documented.
Feb 22: Officer Daniel Novoa responded to Meadowbrook Rd on the report of a smoke condition. Upon entering the home, smoke was observed on the first floor. The basement had a thick cloud of smoke and in the laundry room there appeared to be the remnants of a fire that had extinguished itself prior to police arriving. Fire Inspector, Richard Bryant’s investigation revealed that a chemical fire started in the laundry room, located in the basement of the home. Bryant indicated that a plastic bucket, containing chemical cleaning supplies and linens, were placed too close the furnace and believes the linens may have caught fire from the furnace, creating a small fire in combination with the chemical cleaning supplies.
Feb 24: Officer David Spence responded to The County College of Morris for the report of a stolen snow plow. The victim stated that someone must have taken the plow sometime between 2/21 and 2/23/14. The victim searched the area in an attempt to locate the snow plow, but was unsuccessful. Investigation to continue.
Feb 25: Officer Jason Del Turco was conducting traffic enforcement on Dover Chester Rd when he observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. During the motor vehicle stop, Officer Del Turco detected a strong odor of burnt marijuana emanating from the vehicle. Upon further investigation, Nicholas J. Muccia, 18, Lake Hopatcong was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia and suspected marijuana and arrested for the same. Muccia was also issued several motor vehicle summonses.
Feb 25: Officer David Spence arrested Presendie Gelin, 59, Roselle on the strength of two outstanding warrants following a motor vehicle stop. The defendant was found to have two active A.C.S. warrants issued by the Irvington Municipal Court.
Feb 28: Officer Jeff Goral arrested David Soto, 20, Dover on an active warrant issued by the Dover Municipal Court.
