SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD NJ – The Little Shoebox Project, a service group that donates items in shoeboxes for needy children and families, was recently selected by Eric Kaufman for his Bar Mitzvah Project.

The Little Shoebox Project was launched by Katherine Dreyer of Scotch Plains and Tracy Wright of Fanwood, members of the Newcomers Club, during the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.

“Tracy and I came up with the idea for The Little Shoebox Project during the aftermath of Super Storm Sandy,” said Dreyer.  “After some brainstorming and research we choose shoeboxes because many people affected by Sandy are living in hotels or with friends and relatives where space would be limited.

While The Little ShoeBox Project was originally started to provide Christmas presents, continued demand from various organizations have made it an all year project.

“Little Shoebox Project would like to thank Erik Kaufman for selecting us for his Bar Mitzvah project! Erik's shoeboxes were delivered to HomeFirst for children participating in their after school and summer camp program. We are thrilled to have individuals and organizations choosing The Little Shoebox Project for community outreach activities.”

For more information on the Little ShoeBox Project, visit their FaceBook page, or contact them at thelittleshoeboxproject@gmail.com. To send a donation to them, they can be mailed to 100 Willoughby Road, Fanwood, NJ 07023 or to 2208 Coles Avenue, Scotch Plains, NJ 07076.
