Middlebury College retained its position at the top of the Division 3 rankings despite a loss, and the cherry on the topping was the naming of Joey Kizel (Short Hills, Soph.) as New England Small College Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week. Kizel, a 6-2 guard out of Millburn High, posted consecutive career highs in points, hitting for 24 in a 1-point loss to Keene State on Tuesday, which he topped with 26 points in Friday's 3-point win over Bowdoin. In the final game of the week, a 73-52 win over Colby on Saturday, Kizel saw limited minutes as the team's seniors started what was the final regular season home game of their careers. He did come up with 11 points in that outing. Overall, Kizel averaged 20.3 points per game for the week on 18-for-28 shooting from the floor, including eight of 12 from downtown, plus 17 of 18 from the foul line. The Panthers are now 20-1 overall and 8-0 in the NESCAC.

A double-double by Kevin Udo (West Orange, Soph.) enabled Bloomfield College to defeat Goldey-Beacom, 70-52, in Wilmington, Del. on Saturday for the Deacons' fourth straight win and their 15th in their last 16 games. Udo's 12 rebounds were a game high and he deposited the ball through the hoop for 12 points, making five of nine shots from the floor and converting both of his free throws. Bloomfield is now 18-6 overall and 12-2 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference.

Andy Charles (West Orange, Soph.) finished as Centenary's leading rebounder in Saturday's 78-72 overtime victory against Baptist Bible in Clarks Summit, Pa. Charles apprehended eight caroms, managed a pair of thefts and chipped in seven points, shooting 2-for-4 from both the floor and the foul line; he was 1-for-2 from 3-point territory. The Cyclones ticked up to 11-11 overall and 7-8 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.

Six was the lucky number for Russ Thompson (West Orange, Jr.) on Saturday as he and his Stevens Tech teammates defeated Alfred, 90-74, in Hoboken. He racked up a game-high six assists while directing the Ducks' offense, and took only three shots, canning two from 3-point land for six points. That leaves the Ducks with an 18-4 season mark and 9-2 in the Empire 8.

A team-high 13 points from Colgate’s Mike Venezia (Westfield, Sr.) was one point shy of prolonging Saturday’s game with visiting American University, which won, 59-58. Venezia shot 4-for-7 from the field (including 1-for-3 from long range) and 4-for-4 from the foul line for the Red Raiders (7-16, 1-7 Patriot League).

Pat Sullivan (Madison, Sr.) scored 10 points for Hamilton College in Sunday's 65-50 loss to Wesleyan in Middletown, Conn. He shot 4-for-11 from the field and 2-for-2 from the foul line. The Continentals slid to 13-9 overall and 2-6 in the NESCAC.

WOMEN'S HOOPS

Lindsay Atchison (Green Village, Jr.) responded to her return to her home environs with an 11-point performance as King's College defeated FDU-Florham, 70-65, in Madison on Saturday. Atchison rattled the rim on four of eight field goal attempts, including one of three from Route 24, and two of four from the victim's compensation line. She also collected five caroms. King's is now 18-3 overall and 9-0 in Freedom Conference dustups.

Monmouth's Abby Martin (Maplewood, Jr.) rolled 12s in both points and rebounds in Saturday's 75-63 loss to Quinnipiac in West Long Branch. Four of her 11 field goal attempts found their intended destination, as did four of her six free throws. Ten of her caroms emanated from the offensive glass. The Hawks are now 13-10 overall and 8-4 in the Northeast Conference.

Tracy Borsinger (Chatham, Jr.) led Middlebury in scoring with 11 points and in rebounding with six boards in Saturday's 69-49 home loss to Colby. She canned five of 13 shots from the field, including one of three from long range. Her two steals were also co-high for the Panthers (6-15, 0-8 NESCAC).

Caroline Murphy (Chatham, Soph.) was good for 12 points for Gettysburg in Saturday's 64-60 road loss to Ursinus. She deposited six of 10 field goal attempts through the hoop in just 17 minutes on the floor. She also retrieved four rebounds and assisted on four buckets as the Bullets dropped to 11-10 overall and 9-7 in the Centennial Conference.

ICE HOCKEY

Colby’s Matt Rappaport (Livingston, Sr.) got credit for an assist on the first goal of the game, although the Mules left the ice on the short side of a 5-2 verdict with Amherst in a Saturday road game. That leaves Colby with a 5-14-0 mark.

SQUASH

Dartmouth's Brian O'Toole (Short Hills, Sr.) posted a 3-0 (11-4, 11-3, 11-5) victory over Columbia's Theo Buchsbaum in New York City on Sunday. O'Toole was slotted at no. 9.

SWIMMING

Fairfield's Kevin Greener (Chatham, Soph.) broke a 10-year-old program record with his 17:11.70 in the 1,500-meter freestyle in Saturday's dual meet with NJIT in Fairfield, Conn. Greener, in winning the mixed race, eclipsed the previous standard by 24 seconds. Cacky Keating (Chatham, Jr.) also produced a win for Fairfield in the 400-meter freestyle. Her time was 4:42.66. Fairfield defeated NJIT, 153-78.

The College of Charleston was aided enormously by Meredith Smith (Westfield, Soph.) in a recent dual meet with Gardner-Webb, won by Charleston, 135-124. Smith won the 200-yard freestyle (timed in 1:58.02) and was second to finish in the freestyle at 100 yards (her 54.25 to the winner's 53.24). She also handled the second leg for the Cougars' 'A' team, winners of the 200-yard freestyle relay.

The Ithaca College women defeated their counterparts at Union, 196-100, in a Saturday dual meet held in Ithaca, N.Y. Kylie Bangs (Westfield, Fr.) and Lauren Brundage (Madison, Soph.) each provided the Bombers with a victory. Bangs got hers in the 200-yard individual medley, which she wrapped up in 2:16.45. She also took third place in the 50-yard freestyle (her 26.38 against a winning 24.94) and led off for Ithaca's winning 'A' team in the 200-yard medley relay. Brundage was first to finish in the 200-yard breaststroke, which she needed 2:35.07 to finish. Union's best bet might have been to try to clone Anne Trojanowski (Chatham, Fr.), who won two events. She was first in both the 1,000-yard freestyle (clocked in 10:53.54) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:21.35).

Chris Dart (Chatham, Sr.) was a 3-time winner in Saturday's dual meet between his Clemson Tigers and Emory University in Clemson, S.C. Dart started out by leading off for the Tigers' 'A' team in the 200-yard medley relay, which they won. Then came a victory in the 100-yard backstroke, polished off in 48.98. Later on, he led the field home in the 200-yard individual medley, with a winning time of 1:50.90.

Maryland easily defeated Georgetown in both the men's division, 228-47, and the women's bracket, 227-54, in Saturday's dual meet in College Park, Md. Matt Meserole (Westfield, Soph.) worked out a win in the men's 50-yard backstroke, which he finished in 23.86. He was later second to teammate Kyle Madley (Madison, Fr.) in the 100-yard backstroke. Madley swam the distance in 51.21 to Meserole's 51.66. Madley also had a pair of second-place finishes in the 100-yard butterfly and the 200-yard individual medley. He finished the shorter of those two races in 51.19 to the winner's 50.31, and did the medley in 1:58.42 to the winner's 1:53.93. Among the women, Maryland's Julia Kudryashova (New Providence, Fr.) got third place in the 50-yard freestyle. She came in at the 24.80 mark, with the winner having touched at 23.57.

Marist's women's team recently handed visiting Seton Hall a 176-122 defeat. Greta Leberfinger (Chatham, Fr.) produced many of those Marist points, winning two individual events and one relay. She took the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:05.46 and the 200-yard individual medley in 2:11.73. She also swam the second leg on the Red Foxes' winning 'A' team in the 200-yard medley relay. Teammate Kim Kaller (New Providence, Soph.) finished second in the 1,000-yard freestyle, coming in at 10:48.90 to the winner's 10:41.12.

Rebecca Butler (West Orange, Fr.) earned third-place points for Dartmouth in two events at Saturday's tri-meet in Boston, in which the Big Green defeated both Northeastern, 171-129, and Rhode Island, 234-66. Butler swam the backstroke and the individual medley, both at 200 yards, finishing with times of 2:08.13 (against a winning 2:02.51) and 2:10.56 (against a winning 2:09.89), respectively. The Big Green then traveled to Storrs, Conn. on Sunday to take on Connecticut. Butler placed second in the 200-yard individual medley, her 2:09.71 topped only by the winner's 2:06.66. UConn won this meet, 158-142.

Dickinson's Caroline Brennan (Madison, Fr.) came out of the pool with a pair of third-place finishes in Saturday's dual meet with Swarthmore in Carlisle, Pa. She contested the 1,000-yard freestyle, which she finished in 11:13.42 against a winning 10:51.61, and the 200-yard butterfly, which she completed in 2:20.65 against a winning 2:16.97. The points made a difference, as Dickinson defeated Swarthmore, 105-100.

Stan Le (Millburn, Soph.) got third place for Swarthmore in the 200-yard individual medley at Dickinson. His time was 2:05.59 in a race won in 2:02.45. Dickinson won this meet, 121-84.

WRESTLING

Franklin & Marshall's Matt Fullowan (Berkeley Heights, Sr.) won both his matches by decision at a tri-meet that the Diplomats hosted on Saturday. Fullowan needed two overtimes to finish off Sacred Heart's Jonathon Rizzitello, 2-1. He then took care of Rider's Brandon Lintner, 2-0. Fullowan wrestles at 174 pounds.

Chris Mazzocchi (Madison, Soph.) of King's College split the two matches that he competed in at a quad meet at Gettysburg College on Saturday. Wrestling at 149 pounds, Mazzocchi pinned Dylan Winkle of Penn State-Beaver at 1:25. He also suffered a 4-3 defeat to Messiah's Ty Kanouff. He also picked up a victory when Gettysburg forfeited its match at his weight class.
