LIVINGSTON, NJ - Vincent M. Howell of Chester, the Global Vice President, People & Organization for Mars Food, has been appointed to the Board of Trustees at The Children’s Institute (TCI) of Verona and Livingston.
Mr. Howell, who is responsible for leading the Mars Food human resources function as part of the Global Leadership Team at Mars, said he is looking forward to working with the TCI board to “continue its strategic journey and to accomplish its goals.”
The new board member said he visited TCI and was “caught off-guard.” “I was really inspired with the way the students are supported by the school as well as all of the staff that I met,” Mr. Howell said. “The kids were thriving and I saw the type of activities that they were involved in and it just touched my heart.”
The Children’s Institute is a pioneer in the field of special education, serving preschool, elementary and middle school students at its Verona campus and high school and young adults at its Livingston campus, all of whom are on the autism spectrum. In addition, TCI serves adults ages 21 and up on the autism spectrum at its Center For Independence, located in Livingston.
Some priorities for Mr. Howell, as he begins his term, include growth, enrollment, providing services as well as gaining a better understanding of autism, its treatment and maybe even finding a cure. He said he would also like to learn more about fundraising. “I want to learn more about the challenges in the world of autism and see what the school can do for the community,” he said.
Mr. Howell, who has a child on the autism spectrum, spent years working for Mars across the globe before moving to California and then to New Jersey in 2001. As a global vice president, his role is to be a catalyst in developing senior talent, building organizational capabilities, developing the unique culture and stewarding the people agenda and signature processes at Mars. Mr. Howell also has senior responsibility for Mars Drinks and the Company’s European Multi-sales markets.
Mr. Howell is also a member of the Board of Directors for Feeding America, the nation’s largest hunger relief organization. He is a graduate of The College of William & Mary in Virginia, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business and accounting. He lives with his wife and children in Chester, N.J.
