LIVINGSTON, NJ – Approximately 800 people came out on Sunday to see The Bronx Wanderers perform a combination of rock & roll, doo wop, and other oldies at the Memorial Field Gazebo.

“Yo Vinnie”, the group’s lead singer, told the audience that, “We are a family act, and we like to travel the world together.”

The group’s website states that, “The Bronx Wanderers recreate the magic of the era and build an energetic bond with their audience, guaranteeing an evening of toe-tapping, hand-clapping, and dancing in the aisles all night long.”

The band bills itself as offering “possibly the best two hours of 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s rock n’ roll that you will experience on one stage.”

Sunday night’s concert featured old tunes such as Walk Like a Man, I Wonder Why, and Looking for an Echo.

The concert, sponsored by Regal Bank, was the final summer concert of 2013. Ordinarily, there are four concerts put on by Livingston Township, but an additional concert was added this year because of Livingston’s bicentennial.

Monte Ehrenkranz, Regal Bank’s Vice President of Business Development, stated that, “We have a good amount of people who come out to the shows and enjoy them, and we’re happy about that.”

Liliana Branquinho, Livingston Township’s Senior & Adult Enrichment and Special Events Supervisor, stated that, “The Bronx Wanders are one of the favorites (of the concert series), they draw quite a crowd.”

Branquinho, who is tasked with booking groups for the summer concert series, said she tries to book different groups who will appeal to different people’s tastes.

“I try to book classic rock, doo wop, and more contemporary bands,” she said.

In addition to the summer concert series, Livingston Township offers other activities for people. Some examples of events in Livingston include an upcoming pool party, an ice cream social, and trips.

“If you look at our program guide, there are 50 pages of programs for infants (to people who are) 104 years old” Branquinho stated.

She added that Regal Bank deserves credit for sponsoring the concert series, while the Livingston Township Board of Education and Public Library deserve credit for making their facilities available to concert goers.

Kevin and Denise Conway of Livingston have attended many concerts in the township over time. They also are fans of oldies music.

“We’ve been doing it for years, coming by Sunday night (for concerts)” Kevin stated.

“It’s a nice atmosphere, it’s a good night” Denise stated.

“You end up seeing friends you haven’t seen for a while” she added.

Jim and Jo Ann Muglia of Fairfield have attended three concerts this summer, but Sunday’s concert in Livingston was the first of the township’s concert series they attended this year.

“It’s one of the better turn outs of any of the concerts we’ve been too,” Jo Ann stated.

Jim added that, “We love the music, it’s kind of our generation.”
