MAPLEWOOD, NJ – Local non-profit organization, The Birthday Box, is hosting its first “Golf Classic” fundraising event at Maplewood Country Club on Oct. 8. The Birthday Box has partnered with The Jewish Renaissance Foundation for this event which gives all golfers the opportunity to play at this private club while doing good and raising money for a great cause.

The Birthday Box was founded in 2010 by Stacy Bergerman and Jen Wilner to bring birthday celebrations to kids in need.  They work with many local organizations to identify children whose families’ financial situation would preclude them from having a traditional birthday party. The Birthday Box collects and packages everything that a family would need to have a birthday party for their child, including a birthday cake, candles, party plates, decorations and a gift, and then delivers it all anonymously, allowing the parents to choose what is communicated to the child.

“It was at my own son’s fourth birthday, that the idea struck me,” said Bergerman. “It seemed to me that there were too many gifts, and I thought there would be children in our community that might be having birthdays that are not getting any gifts at all.”  From that simple idea, Bergerman and Wilner formed The Birthday Box, and have now organized and delivered birthday celebrations and gifts for more than 450 children in our area.

Their mission has allowed families to teach their children about philanthropy, with many kids volunteering one of their own birthday presents to The Birthday Box, to be given to a child in need.

”Even kids realize that everyone has a birthday, and everyone likes to blow out a candle,” Bergerman said.

The Golf Classic will provide attendees with not only  a day of golf,  but also an auction, cocktails, dinner and a vendor boutique featuring chic fashions and accessories.  To learn more and purchase tickets, visit http://www.jrfnj.org/golf/.  To learn more about The Birthday Box, visit TheBirthdayBox.org.
