TheAlternativePress.com (TAP) is excited to announce it has broken a significant readership milestone, with over 2,000,000 readers who have read the site during the past year, and site traffic up 108% year over year.

"We are thrilled to see TAP take hold in our communities and continue to grow.  Our locally owned and operated franchises are exceeding our wildest expectations as more and more people TAP into their communities through TheAlternativePress.com," said TAP Founder Michael Shapiro.

TheAlternativePress.com currently covers hyperlocal daily news and information in  Berkeley Heights, Chatham, East Brunswick, East Orange, Green Brook, Livingston, Lower Providence (PA), Madison, Maplewood, Millburn/Short Hills, Milltown/Spotswood, Montville, New Providence, North Penn (PA), North Plainfield, Paterson, Plainfield, Randolph, Roselle/Roselle Park, Scotch Plains/Fanwood, South Orange, South Plainfield, Sparta, Summit, Warren, West Essex, Westfield, and West Orange, NJ.  More than a dozen additional sites will be launching between now and this summer.

Shapiro added, "Our goal is to locate local residents who are qualified and invested in keeping local residents informed of local news and events, while also ensuring that local businesses who promote their products and services to a purely local audience, will prosper and grow.  It's gratifying to have developed a local journalism model that allows others to build a solid business that offers quality of life and the ability to give back to the community."

TAP was founded in 2008 and is the first all-online newspaper to receive accreditation by the New Jersey Press Association.
