SUMMIT, NJ - New Jersey artist Willie Cole recently installed his latest sculpture on Summit’s Village Green, entitled “Ten Thousand Reasons.”
On a recent morning, a class of elementary children from Brayton School met with the artist on the Green as he was beginning the assembly of the piece. They asked him all sorts of questions, from how he would put the actual sculpture together to why he became an artist.
The sculpture will remain on display for at least a year, and should be viewed in both sunlight and lamplight, as well as when the wind is blowing, since it is a dynamic piece.
Commissioned and funded by Summit Public Art, “Ten Thousand Reasons” is one of many pieces that can be seen and enjoyed all over Summit. Summit Public Art receives no public monies and is funded solely by private and corporate donations.
