Lansdale Borough’s Pennsylvania Community Transportation Initiative project, known as the Wood-Vine Connector, will wrap up its final traffic patterns Monday when temporary stop signs along the route will be removed by Lansdale Police.

Three signs in total will be removed: Two signs at Vine and Green streets and one sign at Wood Street and Derstine Avenue, police said in a Nixle alert.

This means that traffic on Vine Street will no longer be required to stop at Green Street. Southbound Wood Street traffic will have a thoroughfare onto Derstine Avenue without stops.

The intersections will have decorative pedestrian crosswalks. Lansdale Borough staff expects the removal of stop signs to increase vehicle mobility.

“This project offers innovative solutions to transportation problems,” said Lansdale Director of Utilities Jake Ziegler in a press release. “Design features of this project were put in place to improve safety and enhance quality of life for Borough residents now and for future generations.”

The Wood-Vine Connector will give drivers a thoroughfare, without stopping, on a reconfigured Vine Street, Susquehanna Avenue, Derstine Avenue and Wood Street, between Main Street and Broad Street, thereby bypassing any railroad crossings and the Broad and Main intersection.

The new signal at Main and Wood streets is part of that project. The signal was moved from its location at Main Street and Susquehanna Avenue, which will turn into a pedestrian crossing in late-August with a stop sign and prohibited left turns onto Main from Susquehanna. Susquehanna Avenue will also remain one-way toward Main Street from Derstine Avenue.

The project has made a new stop on Susquehanna Avenue at Vine Street, next to Fairmount Fire Co. All cross streets have stop signs at intersections with Vine Street.
