LIVINGSTON, NJ - Temple B’nai Abraham, located at 300 E Northfield Road in Livingston is preparing a Biblical teaching series to begin in January. The class entitled, "Biblical Inconsistency—More Torah Than We Asked For," led by Julie Deluty, Doctoral Candidate in Biblical Studies at New York University, will take place at the Temple, on three Mondays (the 6th, 13th and 27th) in January, 2014, at 7:00 p.m. All community members are welcome to attend the free classes.

Deluty will share her broad background in languages, ancient history, and archeology as the class explores the earliest sources of the Jewish story, while seeking to understand both ancient history and ancient memory. Topics will include inconsistencies such as: how the Bible is filled with parallel, yet divergent biblical traditions including the ideas that God has several names, the Ten Commandments were given at least twice, and the Torah includes two traditions about Moses and the rock and Deborah the prophetess. The classes will discuss how they can be understood, while still keeping the Bible in the context of a holy work.
