Team SAGE Seeks Participants for September 21 Alzheimer's Walk

Sunday, August 18, 2013 • 3:36pm

SUMMIT, NJ - Team SAGE will be participating in the Alzheimer’s Association “Walk to End Alzheimer’s,” the nation’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research.  The Sept. 21 event at Liberty State Park in Jersey City, kicks off at 10 a.m. (registration at 9 a.m.)

Walks are held throughout the United States during the fall to raise awareness and funds for the Alzheimer’s Association.  Nearly 5.4 million individuals in this country live with Alzheimer’s disease, and it is the sixth leading cause of death, yet it remains one of the nation’s largest underfunded public health threat.

“Last year, Team SAGE was led by Ray Eriksen of New Providence and Ed Capano of Westfield,” noted Deanna Butters, Director of Spend-A-Day Adult Day Health Center at SAGE Eldercare.  “Last year, we raised more than $8,000 and had a dozen walkers.  We are hoping to get more participants this year on our team, as well as raise more awareness and funds to help fight the disease which affects a large percentage of our clients.”

The Alzheimer’s Association uses money raised from the walk to fund care, support and research initiatives.  In addition, by fundraising and participating in the event, walkers help to change the level of Alzheimer’s awareness in the community.

To participate with Team SAGE in the Sept. 21 walk, or to learn more about the organization, call (908) 273-5550 or visit www.sageeldercare.org.  To make a tax-deductible contribution in honor of Team SAGE or in memory of a loved one, call SAGE’s Development Office at (908) 598-5503.
