Speeders, tailgaters and "Hollywood Stoppers": Don't break the law in Montgomery Township.

The township police department is taking part in an aggressive driving enforcement campaign through June and July.

According to Lt. Gerry Dougherty, the enforcement is part of the Pennsylvania Aggressive Driving Enforcement and Education Project. It is funded by part of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation's $2.5 million investment of federal funds from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Police will target aggressive driving situations, like tailgating and improper passing, by using "dedicated and sustained" enforcement.

Dougherty said aggressive driving is a way of driving any vehicle "or effecting any type of maneuver on a vehicle in which the driver deliberately behaves in such a manner as to increase the risk of an accident."

The goal of the campaign is to reduce the frequency of such aggressive driving maneuvers. Police said such actions are the cause of car crashes. In the end, the roadways will be safer through such an enforcement.
