Children in Sussex County have the opportunity to earn incentives by reading more this spring during the third annual “Spring Into Reading” program that emphasizes the importance of reading and education.

The program will run from April 14 until June 20 participating children will be entered into a drawing for Fair tickets and gift certificates for books.  The drawing for prizes will be held on June 24.

The Northwest Jersey Reading Council, Sparta Books, and The Agricultural Learning Center at the Fairgrounds are the founders and supporters of this event, and are pleased to support literacy efforts in Sussex County. Their contributions help to encourage children to read, learn, and receive small rewards for their great efforts!

In order to be eligible for the drawing, the child must be a Sussex County resident between pre-kindergarten and fifth grade. The program is open to children enrolled in any of the area schools as well as homeschooled children. The child must read two books during the incentive period, or an adult must read two books with a developing reader. An adult will fill out a short entry and mail it to the Fairgrounds. Multiple forms can be mailed in the same envelope, or they can be dropped off in person to the Administration Building at the Fairgrounds.  The form can be found online at the Learning Center’s section of the Fairgrounds website- www.njstatefair.org.  Parents may visit the ‘Resources’ section of the Learning Center’s website for a list of books on plants and gardens as well as the ‘Places to Go, Things to Do.’

The Fairgrounds Administration Building is located at 37 Plains Road, Augusta, NJ. Office hours are currently from Tuesday to Friday, 9 am to 4 pm. For more information, contact The Fairgrounds at 973.948.5500, email thefair@njstatefair.org, or visit www.newjerseystatefair.org.
