Suspected Car Thieves Ignore Westfield Cops, Crash Into Parked Cars

WESTFIELD, NJ — On March 17 at approximately 4:19 a.m., Westfield Police officers attempted to stop a motor vehicle, at which time the driver ignored the officers’ signal to stop and attempted to elude them, according to the Westfield Police Department. The suspect vehicle eventually crashed into two parked vehicles at the intersection of First Street and Marion Avenue.

Three occupants then ran from the suspect vehicle, which was discovered to have been stolen out of the Borough of Roselle. After a search of the area, two of the three actors were arrested.  

Arrested for eluding police and possession of stolen property were Jamil Simmons, age 19, of Newark and a juvenile from Newark. Investigation to identify the vehicle’s third suspect continues. Simmons is currently being held ay Union County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.
