Susan McCartney Named Township Council President for 2013-2014

WEST ORANGE, NJ -  Susan McCartney was elected the Town Council president for the 2013-2014 year.  This marks the third time McCartney has been Town Council president, having served for one year in each of her elections.

Councilman Joe Krakoviak nominated himself to be considered as Town Council president, noting that he was the most senior member of the council that had not yet been president.

The council voted in favor of McCartney.

In addition, council members were appointed as Council Liaisons for the following entities:

Planning Board - Susan McCartney

Local Assistance Board - Patty Spango

Degnan House (ERSCHA) - Victor Cirilo

Renna House (WOSCHA) - Patty Spango

Insurance Fund Commission - Jerry Guarino and Victor Cirilo

Downtown West Orange Alliance - Jerry Guarino

West Orange Municipal Alliance Committee - Patty Spango

West Orange Arts Council - Sue McCartney

Open Space and Recreation Committee - Joe Krakoviak

McCartney presented information on the EF Foreign Travel program, which provides housing to foreign exchange students in West Orange for about three weeks. Students from Italy, Spain and Russia will be arriving on July 2 and depart July 28. Students from  France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Hong Kong and China will arrive on July 31 and depart Aug. 19.

Students attend classes Monday through Friday at  Drew University in Madison, and host families provide three meals, transportation to and from the EF bus stop (at the Marriott Courtyard Hotel in Essex Green), and provide a loving environment. Host families receives small stipends depending upon the number of students they take in.
