Summit Update from Mayor Ellen Dickson

SUMMIT, NJ - The following message from Mayor Ellen Dickson was just sent to all media outlets:
This is Mayor Ellen Dickson with an important Code Red message about Hurricane Sandy.
· There are many trees and electrical wires down creating power outages throughout the City.
· A state of emergency is in effect for the City of Summit. Non-emergency related travel is prohibited until midnight tomorrow.
· Safety continues to be the primary concern. Stay indoors during this storm and always treat a downed electrical line as energized.
· Our police, fire and public works departments are responding to the impacts of this storm.
· If you lose power contact JCP&L directly at: 888-544-4877 I’ll repeat that number,
888-544-4877 ; please do not call the police department or 9-1-1 to report power outages.
· A shelter has been established at the Summit Middle School, located at 272 Morris Avenue.
· Summit public schools will be closed tomorrow.
· City offices, library and community center will be closed tomorrow.
· New Jersey Transit operations will be suspended tomorrow.
· The City Disposal Area will be closed tomorrow.
· Garbage collection will be suspended tomorrow.
