Summit Swimmer Takes Home “A Bucket Full Of Medals” At This Past Weekends NJ USA JO LCM Swimming Championships

Ryan Sebastian, who just recently celebrated his 16th birthday, took home the prestigious “High Point Award” (15-19 Age Group) at the 2012 New Jersey Long Course Junior Olympic Championships held this past weekend (July 26-29) at the Sonny Werblin Recreation Center at Rutgers University. Competing in 9 individual events and relays over the course of 4 days, of both morning preliminaries & evening finals, he competed as much with the weather delays as he did with New Jersey’s best 15 & Over swimmers.
Showcasing his versatility among all strokes, he won gold in both the 200 Breaststroke & 400 Individual Medley; Silver in the 200 Individual Medley; and bronze in both the 100 & 200 Butterfly and 100 Breaststroke.
Coming into this weekend’s meet, Sebastian had already qualified for Junior Nationals in the 400 Individual Medley (4:32.64). He added the 100 Butterfly (57.07), and achieved “bonus cuts” (extra swims) in the 200 Individual Medley (2:09.65), 200 Breaststroke (2:24.85) and both the 100 (59.86) & 200 Backstroke (2:09.75).
Next up, are the USA Swimming – 2012 Speedo Championship Series Long Course “Super Sectionals” that are being held in Buffalo, New York (August 2 - 5). Followed by, the 2012 Speedo Junior National LCM Championships that will be held at the Indiana University Natatorium, Indianapolis, Indiana (August 13 – 17).
Ryan trains competitively year-round and is coached in the pool by Scarlet-Elite Head Coach Bill Deatly and Speed & Agility Coach Jay Abate of Underground Training. He will be a Junior at the Summit High School where he is also a member of the Boy’s Varsity Swim Team.
