Summit Streets Aglow

One of the most beautiful moments in our community each year is driving through Summit on the evening of December 24th to see homes aglow with luminaries. This glorious sight, and the spirit of community that it represents, makes Summit a special place in which to live. The funds raised by selling the luminaries brighten the lives of many in need throughout the year.

The Summit Luminary Event is made possible through the dedication of Barbara Romano, the Founder and President of the Summit Luminary Fund, and the funds raised by Lois Schneider Realtor in Summit, who underwrites the event each year. Special thanks are also extended to the area leaders who coordinate the orders and deliveries, and the many volunteers who give their time to fill thousands of bags with sand and candles.

This year, the Summit Luminary Fund raised $59,000, all of which will be given back to charitable organizations within our community.  Karen Schneider and Barbara Romano presented checks to the following beneficiaries:

Senior Connections, Santa Claus Shop, Bridges’ Summit School Supply Drive, Pathways’ Summit Area Financial Assistance Fund, SHIP (Summit Helping Its People), Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad, SAGE Eldercare Spend-A-Day, and Valerie Fund Camp Happy Times.
