SUMMIT, NJ - Teachers are "dressing down" to raise money for the Summit Education Association (SEA) Scholarship Fund.  The SEA represents the teachers, secretaries and custodians of the Summit Public Schools.

Each spring the SEA awards six scholarships of $1,000 each to deserving seniors.  Three are awarded to Summit High School students, and three more to children of SEA members.  The scholarships are funded entirely by donations:  Members are asked to donate $5 on each of five dress-down days during the school year.  The final scheduled dress-down day is April 11.

“We typically raise about $6,000 per year,” SEA scholarship fund chairperson Jennifer Eisert said.  “It’s completely funded by staff within the district.”

"The SEA Scholarship was a highly appreciated component to allowing me to pursue my first choice university, the University of Virginia, where I am becoming an active member in the University community, especially in the community service area," said Chelsea Taylor, SHS class of 2013.

“Our daughter was truly honored to be a recipient of the SEA Scholarship,” the parents of Emma Standing, SHS class of 2013, said.  “The extremely high cost of a college education today makes it difficult for almost any family to afford.  Receiving the scholarship definitely helped to reduce the financial stress of college tuition and expenses.   Our family will always be grateful to the SEA for providing a scholarship that assists hard-working students in attaining their goal of receiving a higher education.”

The scholarship is called The Fran Flesch / SEA Scholarship in memory of a long-time SEA president.   Members of the community are invited to support the scholarship by sending checks made out to the Summit Education Association to:
