SUMMIT, NJ - The Summit Playhouse is producing a one-night-only cabaret fundraiser May 31, featuring some of the area’s biggest and brightest talents. Proceeds from the benefit, “Raise the Roof”, will go toward replacing the Playhouse roof, which is in desperate need of repair. The evening will begin at 7 p.m. with a wine and cheese reception, followed by the show at 8 p.m.
The line up of performers is testament to their devotion to the landmark theater, as well as quality of productions it has been producing in Summit since 1918 . Of the Playhouse, which has the distinction of being one of the oldest continuously operating community theaters in the United States, Summit Mayor Ellen Dickson said, "The Summit Playhouse has given so much to our community over the last 96 years. It’s only fitting we should give back by supporting this effort to maintain this historic building and community theater.”
Those unable to attend the cabaret, but who would like to donate to “Raise the Roof”, are asked send a check payable to The Summit Playhouse Association, 10 New England Avenue, Summit, NJ 07901, noting “Roof” in the memo line.
