SUMMIT, NJ - The Summit Police Department has announced the promotion of long-time volunteer Billy MacAdam to the rank of Auxiliary Captain.

MacAdam has completed more than 4,000 volunteer hours for the City of Summit and the Summit Police Department.  He is a well-known figure around town, having made himself available for almost every emergency callout since 1999, and is a frequent volunteer at most events in Summit.

In 2007, he was directly responsible for locating four robbery suspects and, as a result, all four suspects were subsequently apprehended.  Later that year, he was promoted to Auxiliary Police Lieutenant.  When Auxiliary Captain MacAdam underwent a heart transplant in 2008, it might have appeared that his career was over, however, he returned to duty as soon as he was medically cleared.

MacAdam graduated from the John H. Stamler Auxiliary Police Academy in 1999.  A life-long resident of Summit, he has been a member of the Auxiliary Police unit for 16 years, and has received multiple Exemplary Performance Notices, as well as countless Letters of Appreciation, from both Summit officials and officials from outside agencies.

MacAdam is also an Honorary Silver Life Member of the Summit PBA Local 55, and a member of the Summit Elks for the past 15 years.   Summit Police Chief Robert Weck noted, “Captain MacAdam is the highest-ranking member of our Auxiliary force, all of whom are residents giving their time and talents to assist the Police Department.  Billy represents the best of the best.”
