Summit Man Arrested for Driving Drunk After Accident

On Friday, February 8, 2013, at 1:13 a.m., Ptl. William Fettes responded to the area of Mountain Avenue and Murray Hill Blvd. to investigate a report of a motor vehicle accident. Upon arrival, he observed an unoccupied 2008 Land Rover on the side of the roadway which had struck a tree. Upon further investigation, officers were able to locate Patrick J. Browne, 47, of Summit, walking on Central Avenue in New Providence and it was determined that he had operated the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. Browne was placed under arrest and brought to police headquarters for processing. Browne was charged with driving while intoxicated, refusal to submit breath samples, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident and failure to report an accident. Browne was given a date to appear in Berkeley Heights Municipal Court and released.
