SUMMIT, NJ – The Summit Lady Hilltoppers took on Westfield at home on Tuesday, Oct. 16, and came away with a 1-0 victory.

Summit controlled the tempo throughout the first half. The Lady Hilltoppers dominated the game and had many scoring opportunities. Westfield showed they had fight in them. They battled and clawed to the end, but Summit’s stingy defense prevented them from capitalizing.

With only five minutes left, Summit was given a penalty kick and  Junior Holly Confalone put one past the keeper giving the Hilltoppers the lead.  It was the only goal scored in the game.

“We take it one game at a time," Confalone told TheAlternativePress.com. "Our team really pulled through; it was a well deserved win.”

Summit team captains Stuart Humphrey, Jessica Sanyour and Anna Johnson said they were all pleased with the win.

Hilltopper Junior, Julia McNally, was successful in connecting the defense and forward lines.

As the game progressed, Westfield took control of the offense, but Summit’s freshman goalie, Callie Humphrey, stopped an array of shots, preventing  Westfield from scoring. She made nine stops in total.

Summit won its third straight game and improved their record to 6-8 on the season. With the loss, Westfield fell to 8-4-1.

“That was a good win," Summit Coach Michael Poller said. "Anytime you can beat Westfield it’s a great day. The girls played hard and gave it their all. It was a great game.”
