SUMMIT, NJ - Five Summit High School (SHS) students visited Stevens Institute of Technology to compete in Trading Day, trading stocks and equities in a team competition using the state-of-the-art trading lab at Stevens, right across the river from Wall Street.

The SHS students that participated included:

Adrian Wong, Junior
Andrew Burley, Junior
James Demakos, Junior
Patrick Murray, Junior
Luke Mahoney, Sophomore

Nearly all the 20 teams who competed were enrolled in business courses at the high school or are members of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA).  Despite not having any prior experience in such competitions, the SHS students more than held their own.

They researched stocks, developed a plan, and quickly learned how to manipulate the Bloomberg terminals for their trades.  All of the students came away with a deeper understanding of the trading platform as well as how exciting finance and investing can be.  They also came away feeling motivated about starting an investment club at SHS, and were drawing up by laws, discussing officer positions, slogans, recruiting potential members, on the bus ride home.

The day also included a campus tour, meeting with Stevens professors to discuss the business majors, and a sit-down with 10 industry professionals.

According to Alison Grill, SHS College Specialist, "We are really invested in bringing a business program to the high school, and felt this would be a great way to start getting some momentum for the program."

Grill and SHS counselor Tara Marrero chaperoned the trip.
