SUMMIT, NJ - Michael Tsiang, a 2011 Summit High School graduate, and currently a junior at the Villanova School of Business, has been invited to play on China's first team to compete in the Men's Lacrosse World Championship Games.
Two years ago, Tsiang attended a summer session at Shanghai's Jiao Tong University. He was able to connect with an expat lacrosse coach, and played with the home team in the Shanghai Cup, an invitational event for Asia Pacific lacrosse.
Tsiang graduated from Summit High School in 2011, and was a member of the team that won 68 games in a row from 2009 - 2011. At Villanova, he is a face-off middie, and one of 17 players from New Jersey. On Team China, he is one of seven players who bring North American collegiate experience, and the only one from the NCAA Division I level.
Tsiang has also been the collegiate advisor for a crowdfunding website https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/china-lacrosse-needs-your-support. The campaign features a professionally produced video shot in Shanghai. Team China relies on private funding to make it to Denver, and all of its players are reaching out to home communities for donations.
