SUMMIT, NJ - Summit High School field hockey goalie Angelica Angelo stood in the goal crease on Monday night in a different position than what she was accustomed to.

Prior to her senior season, Angelo spent three years with the Hilltoppers as a back line defender, before moving to the last line as goal keeper.

"We had an injury with our goal keeper, who was a freshman starting for us, she injured her hand," Summit head coach Jen Schwarzenbak said. "A senior, (Angelo), stepped up and said she would be willing to play the net. She has done a fine job for us."

Angelo led the Hilltoppers to a 12-7-2 record, including a 2-0 win against rival Millburn on Monday to close out the team's 2012 campaign. The senior made six saves during the match, including two diving stops in the second half to preserve the shutout.

Despite having a young team, Schwarzenbak came away impressed with the versatility Summit showed throughout the season.

She said, "I thought our season, we started out as a very young team and we've really jelled and became a threat in the Union County (Conference)."

The Hilltoppers also made a run into the state tournament, losing to Madison 4-0 in the quarterfinals of the North Jersey Section 2 Group 2 quarterfinals on Wednesday.

Summit will be losing nine seniors to graduation in the spring, but with the experience the underclassmen gained this season, Schwarzenbak expects next year's team to be competitive again.

"We're looking to improve on our stick skills, stopping and receiving, and our vision on the field and our movement," she said. "We have a very young team, that's going to help us improve."
