Summit Festival of Fine Arts & Crafts
Wednesday, March 20, 2013 • 4:39pm
The Summit Festival of Fine Arts and Crafts, is an annual, upscale, juried event and will take place on Sunday, June 23, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. along Springfield Avenue, Beechwood Road, Union Place and Bank Street in the heart of the downtown Summit shopping district. The festival will feature many returning favorites as well as new artists and crafters from the tri state area who will display and sell artwork in media including: clay, wood, fibers, metals, glass, jewelry, watercolors, oil, mixed media and photography. The festival will kick off Discover Summit Arts, a weeklong celebration of the arts in the downtown promoting Summit as a cultural destination rich in visual and performing arts.
Cindy Slotnick of Perfect Duo returns this June with beautiful necklaces, bracelets and earrings created with artistic wire. Her necklaces and bracelets are hand woven, one of a kind, tubular weave jewelry known as Viking Knit. Viking Knit is lightweight and one of the oldest known forms of knitting with wire. Pendants, beads and wire-wrapped minerals are added to embellish her creations.
Also at the festival this year will be House Portraits by Sebes. For over 25 years, Joseph Sebes has been capturing memories of ‘home’ with beautiful hand-rendered portraits. His artwork is ideal for a housewarming gift, birthday, special holiday or occasion. In addition to having a fine piece of artwork hanging in your home for everyone to see, the portraits can also be used on greeting cards, letterhead or note cards.
Watercolor and pen-and-ink are beautiful choices, but for a unique look, a sepia wash can be done for the same price as pen-and-ink wash. This gives your portrait a classic feel that is sure to add warmth and nostalgia wherever it is displayed.
A live outdoor jazz concert will take place throughout the day and visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy a variety of musical entertainers along Union Place in front of the Summit Train Station.
