Summit, Chatham Borough Police Investigating Suspected Luring Incident

CHATHAM, NJ - Police in Summit and Chatham Borough are seeking a man suspected of attempting to lure a 12-year-old boy into his van yesterday afternoon.

Police said the incident occurred in the area of Broadview Terrace and Fairmount Avenue at approximately 3:30 p.m. The boy told police he was approached by a white van with dull, flaking paint. The driver, described as a Hispanic male with a dark complexion, five o'clock shadow and possibly wearing a hat, pulled up next to the boy and asked if he needed a ride.

The boy was startled and ran across Fairmount Avenue and through the cemetery to get to his home.

Police are investigating.
