Summit BOE Short-Changing Our Children's Future with Regressive Plan
Monday, October 21, 2013 • 8:07pm
We find it hard to believe that the City of Summit is not willing to provide full-day kindergarten to each and every child - regardless of income. We would welcome a referendum on this question, and are not only appalled by this plan, but question the legality of our PUBLIC SCHOOLS charging tuition to ANY student.
We also understand that full-day kindergarten will soon become a national mandate, with 75% of New Jersey's districts already adopting an inclusive all-day kindergarten program... Are we so far out of the mainstream, and moving so far to the RIGHT in our community, that we are allowing the tax concerns of a vocal minority to outweigh the educational NEEDS and RIGHTS of our children? What a terrible, terrible shame!
