Summit Area YMCA Kicks off 2013 Annual Campaign

On Wednesday, March 6, the Summit Area YMCA launched its 2013 Annual Campaign, with the theme “Each Y
Story Starts Here..” emphasizing how the Y helps youth, adults and families in the community, through its mission: fostering youth development, promoting healthy living, and creating a sense of social responsibility.Funds raised
during the Annual Campaign support the Y’s financial assistance and outreach programs throughout the year.

In 2012 the Summit Area YMCA had an impact on more than 657 individuals and families in need in the community. The Y provided over $541,097 in financial assistance for childcare, membership, summer camp,
and youth programs, and $682,261 for program subsidies such as 7th Grade Initiative, LIVESTRONG at the YMCA, Youth Aquatics, Youth Enrichment, Community Development, Youth Center, and Teen programs.


This year, over 200 volunteers have committed to the 8-week effort to reach the ambitious 2013 Annual Campaign goal of $491,000. 100% of each tax-deductible gift is applied locally in the community. Every gift matters and every contribution makes a difference. In 2012, The Summit Area YMCA awarded:


$355,142 in childcare, benefitting children and their families which enables each to grow and thrive in a healthy environment.

$49,520 was awarded to children and their families for
summer camp which empowers children and teens to discover their potential develop essential social skills, learn independence and responsibility while building friendships and having fun.

$78,592 went to support the LIVESTRONG at the YMCA Cancer survivor health and wellness program. A 12 week
free program for cancer survivors, providing support for those recovering from serious illness.

$53,118 went to the 7th Grade Initiative Program, allowing 7th graders in the community a free Y membership for the school year, in an effort to prevent youth obesity and help youth make good life decisions and choices at a critical time in their lives. (Over 400 7th graders participated in the program in 2012).
