Summit, NJ, October 11, 2013 – On September 20, the Summit Area YMCA kicked off a food drive to help support local food pantries in Berkeley Heights, New Providence and Summit. The food drive will run through November 23, 2013 and donations of canned food and dry goods are gratefully accepted.

Local food pantries always need the support of the community, but never more so than during the holiday season. As a cause-driven organization with a focus on social responsibility, the Summit Area YMCA is committed to helping neighbors in need through the food drive.

“This is a wonderful, meaningful way for everyone to come together and strengthen our community by helping to feed the hungry,” commented Darrell Johnson, President and CEO of the Summit Area YMCA. “It is as much a gift to the recipients as it is to those who donate.”

At a recent staff meeting, the Y kicked off the food drive with employee donations and collected enough to feed five families. Anjali McCormick, Summit Area YMCA Vice President of Marketing said of her experience, “It feels good to know that families in need will have a more fulfilling holiday…it helps everyone live better.”

Food donations can be dropped off between September 20 and November 23 at the following locations: Berkeley Heights YMCA, 550 Springfield Avenue in Berkeley Heights; Summit Area YMCA, 490 Morris Avenue in Summit; Summit YMCA, 67 Maple Street in Summit; and The Learning Circle YMCA, 95 Morris Avenue in Summit.
