BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - Berkeley Heights’ Summer Concert Series continued on Wednesday, with more community members than ever arriving at Memorial Park to enjoy the evening. Many attributed the showing to the weather, which was considerably cooler than last week.

“Last week was so hot we could only stay for a half hour,” said Danny Balenta, “but tonight is nice, the kids are having a great time too.”

The Berkeley Heights Summer Concert series is primarily sponsored by the Suburban Chamber of Commerce. Rotary Club of Berkeley Heights and the Berkeley Aquatic Club are season sponsors, as are several other local businesses.

The Big Band Evolution was the featured entertainment of the night, and played several classic songs to the delight of attendees across all ages, many of who were dancing around the stage. While the band was a great draw for music lovers, the rest of Memorial Park remained open for children to take a break and play, while their parents listened to the music.

There still are two more concerts left in the series. Next week’s event features The Infernos, an 11-piece performance band with a horn section. In addition, the first concert of the series that was rained out, which featured the band Beatlemania Again, has been rescheduled for Aug. 14.

Berkeley Heights is also holding several other community events in the upcoming weeks. The town will be continuing their “Movies in the Park” series on Aug.1 at Memorial Park with a showing of Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted at 8:15 p.m. Free popcorn and water will be provided.

Theatrical Associates Inc. of Scotch Plains provided the stage setup and the sound. Street Hassle provided technical equipment for Wednesday’s performance.
